i recently just started to break out quite a bit but its not the normal under the skin huge ones its more of the ones that are small and bumpy on top of the skin but it can get pretty bad, ive taking pills and using creams for about 4-5 months but it doesnt seem to get better that much , they still come and go as if im not taking anything, i was wondering if i should just quit taking them and using the cream and just let it come and go naturally and hope that they just still come out because of the irritations from the cream and stuff and maybe it makes my skin too dry?? what do you guys think?? and also does anyone know if really dry skin cause acne?
Pimple help?
Acne is not caused by dry skin.
Acne occurs in the pores of the skin. The pores may be open or have a hair growing from them. Skin needs lubrication, and there are glands that feed the pore that secrete an oily mix of wax and antibacterial agents. This usually speads out and protects the skin or hair strand.
You said 'just recently', so I assume you are newly a teenager.
So:
The glands that feed the pore respond to androgenic, or 'male', hormones. Thus, at puberty when the level of these hormones goes up [for both girls and boys] the waxy stuff is produced in greater quantities. If this gets clogged up, we have a traditional 'blackhead', or 'comedome'.
Sometimes these get infected with a bacteria, usually one called P. Acnes (how original! ) If this gets bad, the pimples will have a yellow pushed out look.
Now, what I would suggest: first of all, take a rational approach to management. Every night wash your face with a mild lotion soap, and rinse down with a solution of 5% Benzoyl Peroxide. The 1% and 2% are too wimpy, the 10% costs a whole lot more and does not work any better. In the morning, rinse off with the 5% Benzoyl Peroxide. If your skin feels dry, use a simple skin lotion 1 or 2 times a day. And wait. It takes 8 to 12 weeks of the right approach to see the final results.
If, after waiting, you still have concerns, see a doctor. The doctor may prescribe some antibiotics [remember our old frind P Acnes?]. if you are female, birth control may be recommended [remember the role of male hormones? this usually helps, but only for females]. Sometimes a medicine called 'retinoic acid' is used as well. If you have a nodular acne [which is not what you described] then the medicine Accutane is called for. These are all doctor prescribed for a reason. Please do not 'borrow' some from a friend just to see if you like it. That could be dangerous.
Finally, have a sense of humor. Acne is part of the human condition. Do not let a minor blemish cause untoward anguish and obsessions.
Pimple help?
Erytop lotion on the pimple twice a day. Wash face with mild soap to keep clean.
Reply:yes, skin that is overdryed can cause an overproduction of oil leading to more pimples and breakouts
see your doctor about the pills and creams and see what he/she advises
i might recommend laying off both and just taking more subtle approaches like benzoyl peroxide mixed with retinol and tea tree oil at night and sunscreen with a little tea tree oil in the morning
also try washing your face with creamy cleansers (i like ones that have salycilic acid in them) and exfoliate with them to help smooth the skin
make sure you stay hydrated and are getting a variety of vitamin and minerals to naturally help the skin
stress may also be a factor so try and relax...yoga maybe? i know it worked for me...
good luck!
