What can I do about ingrowing hairs?

today i was looking at my lower legs close up and I noticed a lot of hairs were 'stuck' underneath my skin but I could see them. I tried to lift them but they wouldnt because they were buried under the skin so I am assuming this is what u call ingrowing hairs yes? So what I did was pick at the skin and 'rescue' the little hairs, but obviously this is impractical given the large area to cover!

I wanted to ask what I should do to

(a) how to 'rescue' the trapped hairs, and

(b) how to prevent them in the future.

Just to let u know, I have recently started epilating my legs and that is the reason. Having said that, I have been epilating my arms for the past 2 yrs and dont have any ingrowing hairs there!

I use a loofah in the shower and I am thinking perhaps I should rub it harder against my skin??? Please help!

In grown hair happen as reaction from the body defence because when you remove hair you wounding the skin and hair follicle the body doesn't recognise our beauty methods so it protects it self by healing the hair follicles with better skin shield . their are cream es and lotions that called ingrown hair terminators salicylic acid base which can help ,eg ; fillosan ,they shead gently the dead cells to allow the hair to come to the skin surface

Try ingrown hair remover, i have added a link
Reply:Using a loofah may cause skin irritation. However you're definitely on the right track, use an exfoliant to remove the top layer of skin. What I then do is pluck them out, however if you're using electrolysis zap them.
Reply:yes they r ingrowing hairs and beautitians recommend that u shpuold have them removed professionly for hygiene reason so u dont infect the skin. you need to exfoliate more often and it shouldnt happen at all!!
Reply:1. Always use a sharp razor

2. Shave in direction of the hair growth

3. Exfoliate with loofah (not to hard)

4. Use TEND SKIN -- helps with ingrown hairs

5. You may want to use a lotion that helps exfoliate dry skin
Reply:easy, just use facial scrub on it once a week works, most better day after u shave really better. b4 theyre really ingrowing
Reply:I use the same method of Rita H and I dont normally have any problems
Reply:Just pray
Reply:U should stick to regular exfoliation of the skin area. Then use ice to rub before using a tweezer to lightly tweak out the ingrown hairs. After which, use a good body moisturiser to seal the area and the skin will recover after a few days.
Reply:try waxing?
Reply:wax them off.lol
Reply:epilation and waxing are known causes of ingrowing hairs, your loofah isn't enough, what you need to do is mix half a cup of slightly warm olive oil with equal parts salt, rub it onto your skin whilst dry and keep massaging it into the affected area, this will remove the dead skin and help release any ingrowings, shower off and dry, moisturise your skin. repeat this 2x a week
Reply:exfoliate every day, epilators are terrible for causing ingrown hairs,
