Question for Tattooed people!?

I have a tattoo, have had it for a while, actually i have 2 tattoos. I have a heart shaped tattoo between my shoulder blades, and I also had my eyebrows tattooed on by my cosmetic tattooing instructor. Now, occasionally the ink in my brows will puff out making my skin feel like there's pebbles under my skin and they will get very irritated and itchy, and the one on my back will get very very itchy, but never at the same time. I am not having an allergic reaction, i was tested for that last week, but could my skin possibly be rejecting the ink? or at least trying to? Somedays I can just ignore it, but others it gets unbearable, does anyone else have this problem? I have done over 50 different eyeliner, eyebrow, and lip tattoos and noone has ever had this complaint. But I guess there's a statistic that 2% of people have an issue with skin rejection, and the only cure is to get it lasered off....... anyone have any experience with this type of thing?
Question for Tattooed people!?
I have 8 tattoos. I experience this mostly during the summer months. My tattoos will become raised, sometimes itchy and they look 3 dimensional. I was told that it is the bodies way of rejecting the ink. I put 'Burt's Bees' ointment on. It helps relieve the itch and swelling. If this is a constant problem your allergy may be more severe.
Question for Tattooed people!?
i would see a dermatoligist. it sounds like you have a serious situation on your hands. make an appointment asap.
Reply:have you had this problem since you get the tatoos, or did it just start recently? my tatoos have itched but that went away as they healed- just a few weeks. it sounds like you have an issue that you should see a dermatologist for. also, talk to a tatoo artist about it. most of them are familiar with any common complications and should be able to point you in the right direction. good luck!
Reply:nope, your screwed
Reply:Next time it flares up go see an experienced tattoo artist or your doctor.
Reply:I know what you mean, I have had the same thing happen. My tattoos are all over 2 years old. Sometimes the outlines get raised and itchy. I have not figured out when this happens in relation to anything else. Sometimes it happens after a shower, and sometimes it happens when the weather is cold and dry. I have done a ton of research on tattooing and piercing complications, but I have never seen this described in the literature. I guess that the only thing to do is to try to apply something to help the itchiness. Sorry I don't have any answers, but you are not alone. For the latest publications on tattoo complications, see pubmed.
Reply:Dude! I have this same prob, but only on my wrist. It becomes raised and itchy like it was when I forst got it (6 years ago). I notcied it happens in the summer when the humidy sucks. But I don't know why. Just lettin u know ur not alone. And it always goes away. =)
Reply:i have my eyebrows tattooed too and they dont itch. but the cross on my back itches. i dont get it everyday but it happens and it goes away (but starts to itch again). i asked my tattoo artist who is also a good friend of mine, he said that your tattoo can itch if you smoke or drink. dont worry too much i doubt its because your skin is rejecting the ink.
