Simple answer. .

You can buy some products that are mildly abrasive and made from nut shells. . use it on your face when you shower about every two or three days. .

Also, if you have a doctor go and get a script for benzyl peroxide and erythomycin ointment. . . use it as directed. . that should fix the problem. . if you don't have a doctor, go and get some benzyl peroxide ointment and use it. .

Hope this helps

proactive solution has best reputation for fighting acne
Reply:sounds like you need some cosmetic help...go to a dermatologist...they'll be able to reccomend "prescription" stuff that should do the job...if not you can always get "microdermibrasion, and face peels done"...just remember "there's always a solution"
Reply:proactive works like a charm
Reply:benzoyl peroxide ingerient in acne mediciens, 5% solution is fine, higher % wasting your money.

Acne and less-than-clear complexions have several causes and treatment possibilities. It might be helpful to look back at some previous Go Ask Alice! answers before getting into a discussion of the treatment regimens you mention in your question. Take a look at Acne treatment and Antibiotics and acne in Alice's General Health archive.

Salicylic acid helps reduce the number of cells around the follicles of your skin's oil glands. Available in lotions, creams, and pads, it must be used continuously to keep pores unclogged. It's important to use this product as directed, since using too much may increase your chance of salicylic acid poisoning. Use of salicylic acid with certain other products may also cause severe skin irritation, so avoid the following unless directed by a health care professional:

Abrasive soaps and cleansers

Skin products that contain alcohol

Other acne medications, including benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, sulfur, or tretinoin

Drying cosmetics or soap

Medicated cosmetics

Other skin medications applied topically

As you've discovered with your use of salicylic acid, several over-the-counter acne medications can have side effects 鈥?such as the tiny bumps on your face. Most side effects tend to go away after continued use. But any severe ones are a reason to see a health care provider. If salicylic acid is bothering your skin, don't use it.

Let's look at the other option you mentioned in your question: benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide works in two ways: it kills the bacteria that help cause acne, and it has a drying effect that makes it easier to wash away excess oils and dirt. It does help unclog pores, so it might be what you're looking for.

There are a few things to keep in mind before you start using benzoyl peroxide. Your skin will probably be irritated during the first three weeks, and your acne might seem to get worse before it gets better. If nothing improves within 4 to 6 weeks, see a provider. Once you begin using benzoyl peroxide, continue using it to keep your acne away. Refrain from washing or using any other medications on the area you treat with benzoyl peroxide for at least an hour after. Also steer clear of the following, unless your provider tells you otherwise:
Reply:Just change your diet. Lower the amount of animal fat and oil u consume, and you'll get rid of all the zits soon enuff.
Reply:proactiv only works on some people. it kind of depends on where you live. it didn't work for me in hawaii or seattle, wa. might just be my skin type....but know that it doesn't work for everyone. see a dermatologist
Reply:hey, products help, but what you do and eat affects it the most. for example do you squeeze your pimples, dont its one of the worst thigns you could do, do you drink enough water ?

have a read of this site http://clearacnenow.blogspot.com/

Reply:Go see a dermatologist before you think it's zits. You either need to clear up with an astringent (if it's pimples of any sort) but it could actually be an allergy to your washing detergent or dry dry skin.

I think you may not have zits but something else in fact. Why Walmart as the only place where you can get a remedy? I don't follow that.

You at least should put your question to a skin doctor on the web if you don't have intention to see a dermatologist

Someone said they saw generic proactiv at Walmart -

but whatever you buy you need a three step regime.

Wash - to wash off bacteria/oil, the toner to balance and help close pores (black heads), and the acne spot cream to dry out your face (yes acne medicine does dry out your face but it clears it so what is the lesser of two evils??)

You could try acne free

oxy products

a simple witch hazel in a spray bottle acts like a toner

and find a good heating acne mask to use once a week on a clean face.

Also before you wash at night take a hot compress to your face to draw out the dirt/black heads and wash...

drink more water

take vitamins a e and c orally and zinc.
Reply:Sounds like acne.

I'm not sure there is an over the counter product that can help you.

May need to see a dermatologist.
Reply:Try a gentle cleanser. One that is glycerin or sorbitol based will be good and it does not need to be expensive. Cetaphil and Neutrogena has some pretty good ones. Try Cetaphil庐 Gentle Skin Cleanser.

Wash your face at least twice a day and everytime after you perspire. If your skin is the oily kind, you do not need to apply any moisturizer, your skin oils are enough to keep it hydrated. If you really must apply a gentle light oil free one. Cetaphil庐 Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 or Cetaphil庐 Moisturizing Lotion is quite good

Apply pimple cream to the acne area. Try benzoyl peroxide low strength(2.5%) first. You can try oxy, panoxyl or Neutrogena brands. Neutrogena on-the-spot is pretty good. Don't pick poke scrub or pop your pimples unless you want scars which are really ugly. Scrubbing cleansers or washes are also no-nos because it equals picking and poking and makes acne worse Treated pimples gently.

As for the back and chest acne, the skin is thicker here and has harder absorbing system, you can use harsher soap and products here but not too harsh. Use some acne body soap and you can use higher % of benzoyl peroside here. The same rules still apply here, no picking poking and scrubbing the pimples.

Eat healthy. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Cut down on sugar and carb intake. Foods like chocolates, coffee, soda drinks, bread, rice potatoes or anything starchy and sugary are no-nos. Cut down on oily and fried foods also. Go for grilled, steamed or baked food. Make sure you eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Ensure that your diet is rich in vitamin A, B5, C, E and Omega-3 which are important for the skin. Less stress and sleeping enough is also important. Not having enough sleep is like putting stress on your body. Makes sure you sleep at least 8 hours a day.

Visit a dermatologist if it doesn't work or worsen. Products can only help that much. You may need to tackle the problem internally with medication.
