My chicken got attacked by dog. It has several injuries that are pretty bad.?

Nothing was broken, but she is missing a few patches, about the size of a silver dollar, of skin off her back and sides. Some skin around tail was partially ripped off and of course many feathers were plucked in the proccess. The fatty tissue under the skin is exposed and can not be covered as the skin is actually missing and I am afraid to put anything on her right now since I do not know what would be safe for a large wound that deep. She is standing and wanting to walk around but I put her in a boxto limit her movements for now. This chicken is a favorite pet of my children and they would be very upset if she passed on. I would welcome any advice on this if someone knows how to help her. And, NO, I will not just put her out of her misery.

Call the vet if you have to. Don't let it near dogs anymore.

BRING HER TO THE VET!!!!
Reply:Call your local emergency vet. It wouldn't be safe to leave the wounds open as she could get an infection. If they won't see her cause she's a chicken (some won't), ask them what you can do. If they can't give you any advice, they should be able to put you in contact with someone who can help.

Good Luck!!
Reply:You can take it to the vet....If they can't stitch it...they will probably at least give you some cream for the sores...Good Luck!!!
Reply:Coat her in bread crumbs and fry her up for dinner
Reply:Save the chicken method: Boil lots of hot water. Make sure it is boiling. Then cut your chicken throat. Make sure all the blood comes out! Then put her in the big pot of water and peel her feather off. Clean and season the chicken. Leave me some. Bon apetit.
Reply:If the chicken is still alive...

apply triple antibiotic to the wounds. They need to be disinfected immediately.

Her best bet? Put antiseptic on a gauze pad. use medical tape to secure the gauze over the wounds. They should scar over so long as the chicken doesn't get an infection. Keep a close eye on her. She'll never grow feathers back where it scars, but she should live so long as the wounds are kept clean.

I'd probably also supplement her feed, either with some game bird ration (high protien feed), some calf manna (high nutrient, high protien, but this is an additive for poultry food, and shouldn't be fed exclusively), or some vitamin supplements to help her recover quicker.

Best of luck.
Reply:The triple A ointment is a good idea.Do not put any cortizone type ointments on her as they can actually kill chickens. And for this time of year make sure you use a screwworm spray(maggot spray) if the flies can get to her.
Reply:You need to take her to a veterinarian who treats chickens. If you don't take care of the wounds, it could develop an infection.
