How do i get rid of a keloid that has formed under my lip piercing??

I've had my lip pierced since Feb 2nd. It was healing fine i thought. but about a month ago it developed a bump of skin just below the piercing. My lip is pierced on the lower left side. I tried using aspirin, hydrogen peroxide, sea salt soaks, and i'm now trying tea tree cream. Is there anything that will make this thing go away? It looks absolutely disgusting. Also, there has been a little bit of fluid coming out of the hole on the ouside. I'm not sure if it's pus or not. It also still gets pretty crusty around the ring on the outside. The inside of the piercing is completely fine. Advice please anyone??

Well, you're making things a whole lot worse with the products you're trying.

Keloids aren't all that common. If it is a keloid, only your doctor can help you with either steriod injections or plastic surgery.

Chances are it's hypertrophic scarring, which is much more common. (especially if you're light skinned - darker skin tones are more prone to keloids). Anything which irritates the piercing is going to encourage scar tissue formation.

Peroxide and tea tree oils (or creams) will irritate the piercing, don't use them. Don't use soap to clean the peircing, it's totally outdated because it's been found to cause irritation.

Keep up with your sea salt soaks 2 times per day - no more! (make sure they're mild - 1/8 tsp sea salt to 8oz warm water), and you can try the asprin again (it works for some people) Mostly, it takes time and proper care.

The fluid comming out of the piercing is most likely lymph, which is normal until it's healed (which will take a lot longer if you continue to use the products you've listed)

that is not a keloid , just wait 2months and it will disappear or decrease in size coz' that is a hypertropic scar and don't put anything
Reply:Keep using sea salt soaks, never use peroxide or creams on a piercing. The best thing to clean facial piercings with is Dial's Anti Bacterial Body Wash/Soap-it's sensative for your skin and will clean the piercing (as well as the rest of your face) really well. I've had over 15 piercings and all have healed perfectly using Dial Body Wash; it's also what my doctor told me to use. If the bump doesn't go away, I suggest going back to the piercer who did it or to your doctor.
Reply:It's not a keloid.

It's caused from you wearing a ring in your lip.

You need to go to the piercer and have it changed to a flat back stud, asap.

It's caused because the ring moves around A LOT and your lip can't sit still long enough to even start to heal.

Continue with the Sea Salt Soaks.

Keep up the after care as if you just got it.

And baby it, basically.
Reply:I'd suggest going to see a doctor. I might be nothing but if it is infected then best to jump on it straight away
Reply:go and see a doctor
Reply:I would go with the suggestion of changing the backing first. If it's not a keloid that will get rid of it. If it is a keloid the only way to get rid of it is surgery was will sometimes leave a bigger keloid in it's place. But, keloids are pretty rare unless you are of African descent. At least, that's what I hear.
Reply:i had that on my navel. i soaked it in sea salt for ten minutes twice a day and it went away in a week.

i'm not sure how you'd go about soaking a lip ring... i used a dixie cup full of sea salt water and laid on my back and let it soak and it worked beautifully. i guess if anything completely SOAK... and i mean SOAK a cotton ball of sea salt water and set in on your lip for ten minutes first thing in the morning and before bed. that should do it.

the fluid is just a little infection. that's normal. it will go away if you use dial to clean the ring once a day. the unscented DIAL soap. not the scented stuff. it will taste gross but it will be worth the healing.

Good luck!
